The future of Radio 2's long-running Saturday morning show Sounds of the 60s, hosted by veteran Brian Matthew, is in doubt:

It doesnt say its going to be axed in that piece at all.
TBH I'm amazed that Brian Matthew is still presenting after 50 years.

It's one of the better shows......why do they call them 'shows' when you can't see anything??....on the radio, especially on a Saturday.

Brian Matthew needs laying to rest. 50 years of mainly piss poor 60s music. Enough already. There's some great 60s stuff out there but it's time to move on. Maybe Sounds of the 70s would be a good idea.

Taking over Gambaccini's slot would be a very good idea.

Sounds of the 60s could either move to Sundays in place of tiresome Sunday Love Songs or excruciating Elaine Paige.

Brian Matthew is an old bore and should have been put out to pasture years ago along with Desmond Carrington. Tony Blackburn would have been a huge improvement hosting Sounds of the 60s but now he's gone it looks as if Brian Matthew is here to stay for a while yet.

Weekends on Radio 2 are absolutely awful, Saturday used to be the best day of the week when Jonathan Ross, Richard Allinson and Bob Harris were there, now it'a full of z-list celebrities like Anneka Rice, Graham Norton and Dermot O'Leary.

Sundays are still bad, Clare Balding is a waste of time as she's never there, Sunday Love Songs has been done to death and Elaine Paige is like listening to fingernails being scraped down a chalkboard. Her show is in the wrong slot and should be moved to Sunday nights with Paul O'Grady as host. He knows his musicals and is a brilliant radio presenter.

And Lisa Tarbuck is the female Steve Wright....just awful.

There is a sounds of the 70's on Sunday at 3 till 5 with Johnnie Walker which is good.

Tim Rice is sitting in for Brian Matthew this week and next week, Brian never mentioned last week that he would be absent. We shouldn't read too much into this, but his sudden absence is a cause for concern for his fans.

I remember Johnnie Walker used to present the original TOTP2 on BBC2, with not only old/classic hits but also things like the "Video Stir" with songs from Asia, etc :)

The politics forum used to be confined to anyone who blindly believes the Mainstream. A forum version of a BBC Question Time audience
