Agree with Smeggy re Monty Python and the Holy Grail, love the Italian Job (the original of course, not the pathetic US-inspired re-make), most of the Bond films, but my great favourite is Dr Zhivago. The music, scenery and acting are just superb, and it's based on a true story - I guess I'm just a big softie at heart!

Loved the HarryHausen effects - Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger springs to mind - Jane Seymour :hubba:

The sheer fact the film crew moved on to Requiem For A Dream means it must have been decent. Will keep an eye out for it.

Anyone seen The Arrival ?

Well, at this present time, my favourite film is probably Blue Velvet.

Less weird than Eraserhead, but big on noir and surrealism. The drama and suspense mount throughout the film. Very erotic as well - to me at least. Isabella Rossellini isn't usually my 'type' but hey, she got something going in that there filum. :)

Though if you ask next week I will probably choose something else. :):

Eraserhead is certainly in the collection, but not in the top ten.

Repulsion is on a similar level (mid 40's)

V for Vendetta, It's even written by Alan Moore who did Watchmen, all though I didn't like the Watchmen film much.

Also Scarface is good, I've only actually seen it once, but it's too long, and boring to watch often, don't know why I enjoyed it that much, but I do anyway.

Bridge Over The River Kwai, for Alec Guinness's memorable performance of the stubborn British army officer who plays mind games with the Japanese POW camp commandant, and in the end, after some brutal treatment wins, only to see his bridge blown to smithereens by British commandos. Very dramatic ending.

good film rocky but its a bit far from the real story ,the suffering was even worse in real life and the bridge wasnt made from wood
i've seen a bit of the burma railway in real life at the new memorial forest in salops (shropshire) its a forest thats being planted to comemorate all those injured or killed serving in the armed forces and others eg fire service momumental project and eventually a huge wall is going to have everyones name on including mine :)
sorry to go OT there

Hi,
My favorite movie is 300 and I have seen 300 movie about 14 times. In this film , in the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army in the mountain pass of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. Persian King Xerxes lead a Army of well over 100,000 men to Greece and was confronted by 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and other Slave soldiers. Xerxes waited for 10 days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw left with no options he moved. The battle lasted for about 3 days and after which all 300 Spartans were killed. The performance of Gerard Butler and Lena Headey in this film is excellent.
