Yup....

Send whatever you want parallel compressed to a group. Whether that's the whole mix, drum submix, or whatever.

Then send that group to another group and insert a compressor on the second group. You can then use the fader of the 2nd group to mix in your compression. You can use an EQ/HPF/LPF in the 2nd group before the compressor is you want to compress only certain freqs

HTH :) :thumb: :thumb:

Think I've farked it up
I sent the original drum buss to a group channel (I called Drum Copy), then sent that to another group channel (NY Comp). Only the NY Comp group works. So I can't mix anything in other than the compressor on that group. That's the only group producing sound

I watched a documentary on Michael Brauer last night, and that fecker uses FIVE compressors for his parallel processing and hinted at using TEN

Compressor I'm using here Paul is the Cubase 6 comp. There's a vintage comp available also and a multi-band. I've started messing with all 3 on the master buss with different settings. You get instant punch and chunky but you have to watch the meters obviously.

You need to send to the comp group using one of the FX sends ( @ 0dB ), not the output routing of the group

i think it was him, or perhaps someone else, who uses 4 extra bus conmpressors, ie has 4 groups containing different flavour comps all routed tothe mater bus, and se sends his, for example, Vox to onegroup, drums to one group, gtrs tio oen group, etc,etc

I'm a fan of mater bus compession, because it allows very dynamic mixes but keeping a tight reign on over all level. i.e you can emhasise things without unbalancing the mix i. of you push a tom fill a bit louder it'll push everything else down slightly, so you'll get he musical dynamics with teh fill leaping out of the mix

create another group.

route one of the FX sends on the drum group to the new group. set the send at 0dB.

isnert a compressor in the new group.

try putting massive amounts of compression on, and then bring up the fader of the second group to mix in to taste. :)

Boy, I bet GCHQ are having fun with this one...!

I've got to admit guys, you're using some clever code words there and it'll take them a while to crack it, I reckon :D

"OK, I've got it now, sir. The first four letters spell Cuba and we think the SE part means Gitmo sir, because Gitmo is in the south-east of the island. Full DEFCON 1 alert for Guantanamo sir, looks like Al-Qaeda is going to attack there very soon - over."
