I'm not a punk, didn't follow it either. The bands were just frustrated cos they were shit musicians. John Lydon was going around with his "I hate Pink Floyd T-shirt" because he couldn't play like Pink Floyd nor will he ever be able to. Petty jealousy. I was pissed off because I couldn't play Yes stuff but found if I applied myself, I actually could. There's a lesson somewhere in that :) The whole punk thing burnt out in less than 2 years. Bit of a tantrum really.

I agree the Royals could afford to pay for their own party and no doubt they will. The royals have fuck all to do with what your local councils come up with though, any festivities will be their idea and we'll be paying for it.

Seems the punks haven't learnt much over the years

Well said Phil. :thumb:

Although i like some Punk music, some of it did come across as decidedly petulant.

Plenty of groups were able to dip in and out of punk, without it harming their career. The Stranglers springs to mind, but then you could look at many others, Blondie, Killing Joke etc.

Maybe they had the talent to survive and thrive when others could only moan about the establishment.

Punk succumbed to capitalism like most other successful popular genres

I liked some punk stuff even though I was and still am more of a soul-Disco-Funk fan :)

Punk (at least the UK version ) was Vivien Westwood's solution to flog tat to the masses. Capitalism was key once McClaren was onboard.
