Probably for Smeggy this one.

Do I actually need IRs or just be content to use reverb sends? If I need IR's do they need to be inserts on the 2 buss?
Very confusing area for me this one

IRs for convolution reverb effects can be used on sends. Just set the plugin to 100% wet ( ooer )

You can use them as insert s on the 2 bus and alter the wet and dry mix to suit, but they will effect everything. :)

I'm trying to get some unifying mixes. VSTi's, MIDI, and live instruments are a right feckin headache. All sounding very fake just now

Still wtf for me. I never got enough into MIDI. Used to play electric guitar and keyboards though. Still have the dream of playing guitar solos to a big audience. That audience is having a nightmare though.

Impulse Responses are basically a signature of an acoustic space which you can then apply to recorded audio.

It's done by playing a pulse of sound, in say the Albert Hall, recording the sound of it in the hall including the reverb and processing it in convolutino software to create an Impulse response.

That impulse response can be then loaded into a convolution reverb plugin and voila yo can have the sound of the albert hall on anything

'Impulse response' sounds like a kid with ADHD punching a clown on the nose at his own birthday party.

Let them eat rich, expensive, funny-shaped, yellow, eggy buns.
