I came upon this link last night while trying to post an answer to a thread at the other place.

http://www.derelictlondon.com/id1430.htm

It interested me because I used to go to the George Robey occasionally, and now have to pass it's gutted shell most days at Finsbury Park. Sad.

Last year I looked around Google earth for a lot of clubs and venues I went to in the 80s and loads of them were closed down. Id' maybe at some point like to add some pages to Smeggy's listing all these places no longer with us.

Outside of London, how about the Hacienda Club in Manchester, now a block of flats, or Cream? Obviously those places were of their time and life has moved on, but important nevertheless in the music scene.

Another venue which has long gone, but became very popular in the psychedelic era, was the Roundhouse in Kilburn, a converted railway shed.
BTW whatever happened to those clubs which sprung up in the acid house era like Shoom and The Fitness Factory?

The Roundhouse seems to have reopened as an Arts Centre that puts on gigs. Probably a lot more select than it used to be I imagine.

It actually looks like a nice old building. However, The ultimate sacrilage must be the Rainbow at Finsbury Park being turned into a church.
