Oh, where are your photos of Alan the Gardener, Sheridan Boreley, Malcolm Laycock and Lady Sarah of Kennedy to really give me a heart attack? At least in an hour Radio Grim Reaper goes off the air as the old mixing desk in the bottom of Broadcasting House has to be shut down in case the valves catch fire and the ghost of Lord Reith comes to life to haunt Janice Long.

It's so odd that 24 hours after Radio 2 is playing funereal music that you have Chris Evans presenting a fresh show that millions want to listen to. My parallel to this would be Radio 1 playing the Top 40 and then following it with Simon Bates doing a programme based on tapes of Our Tune from 1983. Radio 1 listeners wouldn't accept this now, so why should Radio 2 continue to have programmes that should either be on Radio 3 or ditched.
Many years ago I did have a conversation with a Radio 3 listener who regarded Melodies for You as some kind of joke as most serious classical fans couldn't take David Jacobs seriously and they would naturally tune to Radio 3 to hear their music. Radio 2 listeners mostly ran off to Radio 1 or ILR for light relief. This old kenk should have been ditched when Frances Line retired.

Certainly not what Radio 2 plays at other times. However, as these older shows become more of a niche offering, ever thought of Radio 2 creating a specialist network for them, same as Radio 1 has 1 Xtra, playing a more " urban" and less Moyles style of programme. I think it could work as it would kill off the old rows between people who want a traditional Radio 2 and the ex Radio 1 listeners who have moved over in the last 10 years.
