That's interesting about "the One". I've just listened to a few of the tracks posted above to see if they fit -
The first ACR one, "I Need Someone Tonight" doesn't seem to fit the format, but "Shack Up" is a good example. "Forced Laugh" I don't know about - I just stuck that in because I like it!

As for Talking Heads, I'll go with Bootsy's definition and not Tina Weymouth's!
"Once In A Lifetime" actually misses out "the One" altogether. It's an anti-funk song! I suspect that's Brian Eno and David Byrn being clever.
"Burning Down The House" seems to be quite funky though.

Just been listening to Bootsy Collins' album "The One Giveth... and The Count Taketh Away" - the title makes more sense in light of "the One". There's a track on it called "Countracula - This One's for You" in which Bootsy tries to get the backing singers to count but they never get higher than one. The next track is "Number One Funkateer"

It's an album that was put down by the critics but it's got one of my favourite Bootsy Collins' songs - "So Nice You Name Him Twice". Couldn't find it on YouTube

Here's the Bootsy/Snoop Dogg video from the "Undercover Brother" film (love that film!) -

And here's another collaboration with a DJ - MC Lyte
"I'm Leavin' U"

It's from the "Fresh Outta P University" album - a whole album of remixes & DJ collaborations - which I thoroughly recommend.

Here's one of the slightly weaker tracks from "Fresh Outta P University"

Party Lick-a-ble's

and here's one from "The One Giveth"

(the song and the video appear to be unrelated!)

And I found "The One" video -

Aww wicked!! you found it!! WOW!!!!

It's years since I watched that. I never forgot it. No one ever explained funk so simply before, or since. :)

Found a good interview with Bootsy - talking about the early days with James Brown, sampling, being a cartoon, sport, gadgets, and being a product!

(The second vid on the last post don't seem to work - it was The Average White Band)

How about some Johnny Guitar Watson? - The Superman of Soul but also pretty funky sometimes -
