Yes, it would be wasted on me really. The only things I really do on my tablet are surfing the net, email, watching YouTube, Sky Go, iPlayer etc, read the occasional book, listen to music and do a bit of shopping. No real need for anything very high spec for me to do any of that.

iPad prices seem more reasonable compared to Apple's other stuff. I don't think they are selling as many as they'd like from what I've read, so maybe that's helped keep the price down. £340 compares well with high end Android tablets.

I was thinking of trying Apple. Though I dislike Apple, Android pisses me off too.
What has kept me with Android? Torrents. :)

I dislike Apple, Android and Windows. They all annoy me in various ways. Though we have to pick one or the other.

Not nice to speak ill of the dead but Apple has improved since Steve Jobs' time.

Yes, he seemed more of a good salesman than anything. Often claiming stuff that had been on other devices was an amazing new piece of tech. A lot of people seemed to lap it up.

Windows has annoyed me occasionally, but XP and win 7 has on the whole worked fine.

I think they want a big chunk of the schools market with the standard iPad pricing. No doubt cheaper in bulk.

Out of curiosity on my part could you do me a favour please?? Although the articles I've read say that the Pro is fast they don't compare it to much else.

Can you get Geekbench 4 from the Play store and run the CPU test? Let me know the single core and multi core results. :)

Well, I watched the whole two hours, including the bullshit. Nothing much which hadn't been leaked beforehand.

Cameras in both the 8 models and the X (pronounced ten of course) seem extremely good, with new features.

Any smartphone would astonish me if I'd seen it 15 years ago, but they just keep getting better.

iPhone X will set you back around £1000.Will I get one? Err probably not.

iOS 11 release date is next Tuesday.

Here you go.......

Single core 728
Multi-Core 3637

Doesn't mean much to me. I'm sure your iPad pro will leave my tablet for dust though :)

Ta muchly. :thumb: Interesting (to me anyway)

I tested my phone as well -
Ipad Pro 3947 9224
Samsung Galaxy S7 edge 1943 5906

Most of the time the extra speed makes precious little difference in practice.

iPhone processor speeds tend to be 50%+ faster than Android.

A friend of mine bought a desktop Windows machine without asking my advice. It runs at a fifth the speed of my seven year old laptop. He's quite happy with it though.

Yes, I think if you're doing fairly basic stuff then pretty average gear is good enough. I don't really notice any lag or anything on my tablet. The high spec devices will come into their own for 'power' users I guess.

I've got a Galaxy S7 (not Edge), so I'm guessing the figures will be similar (the same?) to your Edge. Might try to run a test on it shortly.

I wonder if my tablet figures would have been better if it was tested straight out of the box? Would a year plus of installing/uninstalling stuff/having apps running in the background have an effect? I'm guessing so?

That geekbench site looks very useful. I've jad my computer since 2010 now. While it's still good for most things, I'd like more power for rendering. So occasionally I look around to see what I can get these days and how much faster it'll be

My laptop must be about that old (don't do desktops anymore). In the past they seemed to become out of date much quicker. You'd buy a higher spec PC and the software developers would find a way of using more and more of its resources, until you were once again lumbered with an underpowered PC. That doesn't seem to happen as much any more.

Yup, spot on. on the 90s, early 00s I used to upgrade my PC every year to 18 months. About 2002 I spent a fortune on a dual XEON machine, which lasted me until 2010. this one I built in 2010, an i7-930 which I've overlcoked to just under 4Ghz and for most things is still doing fine. I have upgraded it to 24GB of RAM and put in a NVidia K5000 video card though, so elements of it are supercharged :)

I've now run Geekbench on everything. Including my 5 year old Dell, which although still fairly well up in the Passmark 'high end' CPU list, has a single core score slighly lower than the iPad. :eek4:

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/3991612

Though with a half decent graphics card it still runs everything I throw at it. :)
