Twenty years of the World Wide Web

CERN has recreated the world's first WWW website as a celebration of 20 years since releasing the code in the public domain.

It don't look much but it was a start -

http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html

We got it at work soon afterwards but I couldn't afford the fees at home until about three years later, so stuck with much cheaper Compuserve and various dial-up sites. :)

I thought it was 1991 he created the first page....

I think it was a closed system before 1993 so you had to work in one of the places which were linked up.

Are you sure? In those early days you had to wait about 5 minutes for each page to load, maybe they're just trying to give us an authentic experience. :)

I got "connection timed out" :)
If the WWW was invented in 1989, how come it took 4 years to post the first page? :)
I cant remember when I got the internet at home, maybe 1998/99?

That's how HTML started. Very simple . CSS ( cascading style sheets ) and I believe tables, rows and columns, didn't exist back then. :)
