I believe the £2 increase is only for those on Sky's 'what a fucking muppet' package.

They must have sent me your letter by mistake then cos I got one too. :D I got mine weeks ago.
Part of the reason I'm leaving along with the other "extra's" that they charge for. Virgin includes those "extra's" as standard such as an extra box for multiroom and super dooper fast broadband. It all adds up cheaper to go with Virgin.

I don't have broadband that cums - direct - from a major provider, so I have to wait until the morning for the money shot.

The only reason I have Sky is because when the kids were young the freeview signal here was / is crap so the TV was to keep them happy. I couldn't give a shit about the telly.

I have the pre-historic basic sky box, basic what's now £24 a month and as said I got a letter saying it was going up.

I've heard that apparently you can get a freesat box as long as you have a sky dish. Is this tue? If so i'm cancelling my subscription and getting one of those. Less channels = less repeats.

Love it how when they phoned a while back to see if for an extra £1 a month I could get sports and another £1 a month I could get movies. When I sid no cos no one in the house is really into sport or movies, the kids are at school, i'm working and OH still jobhunting and out most of the time there's no bloody point, they were so shocked tat I didn't want to take up this "fantastic" offer! Who the fuck so they think they are?

I too can afford the increase but even i've seen the repeats and the TV is rarely on!

When you cancel you just won't be able to see the subscription channels. You'll still get the free ones.....BBC, ITV, Channel 4, 5 etc. In fact you might be surprised at the amount of channels you still get.

If it says free to air or free to view on this list you'll still get the channel. You'll need to keep you Sky card in the box for the free to view channels, but there is no need to subscribe.

Could be the quality of HDMI cable. I would think that signals from a dish are more likely to get interference.

Oh right thanks, so I just cancel over the phone and tell them to shove it but keep my pre historic box, which i'm happy with, and that's it?

I don't see a free to view thing, i've still got the old blue and yellow listings thing. Will it still work?

Also I don't have any extra add ons / subscriptions. When I signed up 10 years or more ago it was where you could choose 3 or 4 things to make up your package but even if you chose sport or movies (which I never) you still had to pay extra! I'm sure I got the music, cartoons as the kids were young and the usual shitty news and current affairs, so really i'm forking out for something I could have for free and not even need to buy a new box?

I'll be phoning them tomorrow to cancel if I get time after work,

We don't get Virgin here, I live in the sticks a bit but in Edinburgh my Dad and Sister had virgin and had loads of problems with it so when my Dad was going to leave they done the usual and gave him half price, so much free etc.

Just seen the list in the link doh!

So it seems i'm paying for what I could be getting free. If i've read correctly do I need to phone them and tell them I want the one off payment thing for Freesat or just cancel altogether leaving my viewing card in?

Yes, just ring up and cancel altogether mechs (08442 414141), there are no one off payments, your box/card just give you the free channels once you stop your subscription.. You have to give 31 days notice. You pay in advance so there should be no more payments or just a small one and then your subscription channels will go off 31 days later. The box, dish etc are yours, so once you've cancelled you just carry on using the equipment as usual.

You will lose some channels. Anything in that link that doesn't say free to air/free to view you'll lose. Stuff like Sky One, Sky Living, Gold, Discovery etc will go.

When you ring to cancel there is a good chance they'll offer you a deal to keep your custom, so be prepared for them trying to persuade you to stay with sweeteners.

Done and dusted.
It took about 5 mins for them to cancel. If they had a virgin phoneline it may have been faster. :D

If you just say you don't watch it and don't want it they can't try and offer sweeteners cos whats the point. They didn't offer me anything as they even checked how far the exchange was. The line went quiet.
Mechs at least you won't have any trouble understanding the accent of the customer services. I struggle understanding the scottish accent and they with me. ;)

You going to be offline for a bit then Stan until you get a virgin line/internet or will you be up and running on virgin before your sky line cancels?

The virgin is being installed on the 10th August and the contract runs out on the 24th so won't have any interruptions of services. :)
I'll be paying 40.99 a month for 12 months for the premier collection with a couple of added extra's after that it's £64.99. Only got free landline calls at weekends cos we can just use our contract mobiles anyway. Call landlines more at weekends anyway and its an extra fiver for it on weeknights. Added the 0845/0870 numbers too.
Getting 60Mbps and the XL channel package.
As a like for like with Sky its roughly the same with the multiroom and HD and with the speed I was getting with broadband there was no other option really. Seeing as I'll be getting a big LCD internet tv soon I'll be needing the HD and faster speeds. :)

Very good. You should soon be whizzing along then.

I'm the same as you with the landline. Hardly ever use it. I get 400 mins on my mobile tariff and so does the wife, so no point paying for calls from a landline, although they are free after 7pm if I wanted use it.
