like using fingers to pinch and zoom on the screen - along with design touches like the phone's flat, black glass screen.

Apple are a joke suing for this. What else is a smartphone going to have, a round screen  They are just out and out patent trolls which is why I'll never buy one of their products.

The American patent system is also to blame. When you can patent a rectangle with rounded corners (which Apple did) or features that have existed for years on other devices then you know something is wrong.

Apple are the leading company with smartphone technology. Its rivals are jealous of the success of Apple products.

They used to be leading. They've fallen well behind the last few years though. They seem happier suing the competition than innovating. They are also a rip off, mid range specs at top end prices. Your basically paying for the name.

Nokia used to be the leading manufacturer and I remember virtually everyone had a Nokia phone (myself included). These days it's Apple.

Not really iPhone had just over 13% of sales in the smartphone market (Quarter 3 2013). Android phones make up over 80% of smartphone market share.

That aside, if Apple products are so inferior, why are rivals copying them? Apple is clearly doing something right!

They're not that's the whole problem. Apple are suing other companies for stuff like having a flat glass screen (hardly revolutionary). Good job Apple didn't invent TV's, they'd be suing Sony for making their TV's in a rectangular shape, having a black screen etc.

Apple have run out of ideas, so are trying to sue the opposition out of existence. In fact most of Apple's 'new' ideas have been on other phones for ages.

As Steve Jobs said of Apple -

Picasso had a saying - 'good artists copy, great artists steal' - and we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas.”

Apple tried to launch 'iTV' but were threatened with legal action by ITV Plc as they own the rights to the ITV brand. That's why iApple TV was introduced.

Seems like all the time these phone companies are out to try and sue each other for anything. Why can't they get along for once?

A lot of phones are going to have round screens. Apple are just trying to get more money.

The only thing I ever buy off Apple is iTunes vouchers for music. That's all - I'll never get iPhones etc as they are too expensive.

Yes, but they had something real to patent. If they'd sued someone for having a vacuum cleaner shaped vacuum cleaner then it would be comparable to Apple suing someone for having a smartphone that looked like a smartphone, that by the way Apple didn't even invent.

Apple is considered as the pioneer of smartphones. I love my iPhone 5 (I had a 4 previously) and I wouldn't be without it! I prefer Apple products anyway by personal preference.
