Amazon Prices!!!!

You've got to be careful. I collect old Dubai pictures and I've been watching the price of a book called "The Emirates by the First Photographers" for months now. New it's being offered at £347 FFS!!! And Second hand has varied between £100 and £85. I've simply refused to buy it.

I've been waiting for a much cheaper second hand version and a couple of days ago I saw it at £35 so snapped it up. There was two offered at that price. I went back and checked the price a bit later and the other one which was £35 had gone up to £52 and amazingly a couple of hours later was back to £85. Same bookshop. As I type it's back down to £35 again

I did some invesgiation and it seems common for Amazon to do this. I guess they have some kind of algorithm to maximise prices based upon buying trends and habits of customers.

Lesson is, if you want something off Amazon, monitor price over a couple of weeks and buy when it's on a low.

I've often noticed that. I think it may be a good idea to put something on your 'wish list' to check the price of something, because it you look at the actual item every couple of days it ensures the price doesn't drop. Though I haven't checked the wish list theory as yet.

I've noticed that if someone gives a link to an Amazon item in a post then the price will have risen since because it has had a few recent views.

Recently I got an email from a firm I'd bought something from last year - it was an offer of a free garlic press. When I looked at it I found it was £16 to buy which seemed a bit steep. This is the item and when I looked today it was £9.95.

By the time I'd actually sent off for the thing free it was £20, which is presumably the max price chosen by the supplier?

It's agents that sell their wares through Amazon, I've seen DVDs at £500, I saw one at £999 once :eek:

Some don't know how to use the Amazon software. Seriously, I used it for M&S years ago and it's not user friendly at all.

You save over £100 if you buy it new :shrug:

Buy cleverly on there, check various suppliers as you can get a decent price for most things. If you complain to Amazon about an agent, they'll deal with it for you.
