I've never had a go, but I have a few friends who have decks... a few of them even turned their hobby into paid work. :cool1:

I have friends who DJ and work in a couple of clubs here in Brighton. I have had a go too, and despite hating most of the music found it relatively easy to do. I think part of the fun for most is the power of conducting people on the dance floor, they are being controlled by the music your playing.

yes, i kind of agree with that!..

I used to play in a ceilidh band and people would say - oh but wouldnt you rather be dancing, you're missing out stuck there playing - and I'd think, no. I'm providing the music, without the music there is no dancing ( and I just loved it anyway watching them all and the whole room literally dancing to your tune! )

Its a joint experience - you the musician making the music, stirring the energy and your body and instrument singing and moving - and you feel the dancers energy and vibration and you soak that up through your senses - and its a fusion of whirling sound and movement.

Without the music the dancers cant dance and without the dancers...well its a bit forlorn for the band...

Not my particular thing, but I do know some. I was fortunate enough to go on tour with Carl Cox about 10 years ago.

Decent DJing isn't as easy as people think.

One of my GF's was a DJ, I can't remember the club she worked in but she always said it was hard work. And she used to lose a lot of pounds because she sweat like crazy in the club, so in the morning she always ate loads of toast and stuff. I always thought she was a bit greedy, until I spent one night in the club after she wanted me to come along, and found that I was stick thin by the time I was done. :D :D :D

She got out of it around two years ago and misses it, always says now she wants to go back. Myself, I have never thought about doing it, but I wouldn't be able to anyway, I would crap up every time, my luck.

I did it from 1988-95 around the north west, even did some wireless with the legendary Stu Allan in the early days of dance scene. I am slightly deaf now and sometimes i do miss it but am quite happy doing the odd gig for old folks at do's and stuff. I've gone from playing house music for the ravers to playing Perry Como for the pensioners :D Well i still manage to slip the odd 60's psychedelic one in to liven em up a bit :yippee: Is it time for bingo yet.....???? :beer1:

Sounds like you had fun with it, which is good. I always thought I wouldn't be able to take the music, my ears are so sensitive. :o

Carl Cox is great but the best DJ set I have ever been to was Daft Punk in 97, pure legend. People I know still talk about that night now 11 years later.
They know how to work a crowd, other acts like Chemical Brothers may as well just put their friggin cd on and play it in comparison.

Armand van Helden does some good stuff, but he's more of a producer now I guess.
