It seems like there's supposed to be a thread for every decent show there ever was, but I couldn't find one for Big Train, so I think it's only fair that I create one.

Can't say I've seen this one. What channel is it on?

It's not on any channel now - I think it was first shown on BBC2 ten years ago.

I wasn't into it at the time, but I saw a couple of sketches from it on one of those "The History Of Comedy" type shows and thought it looked promising.

Then while browsing Amazon a couple of weeks back I found the DVD (twin pack - one for each series) for £6.50 so took a punt on it - it's an acquired taste, but it has it's moments.

The first series was written by Graham Linehan and a chap called Arthur Matthews who I'd never heard of but it turns out he's also a highly regarded Irish comedy writer.

Linehan fucked off and left Matthews to write the second series on his own - you can tell but it's still good. Some people prefer it apparently - more "thoughtful". I prefer a good knob gag myself!

The cast are all pretty well known now, but I don't think they all were at the time. Worth a look.

:D

One of my first DVD purchases. Who can forget the out-staring contests ?

My favourite though
