Basil didn't hit the car in Torquay, he hit just here .... On the corner of Lapstone Gardens and Mentmore close in Harrow, Middlesex.

Fawlty Towers was a brilliantly funny show. John Cleese has always been a funny guy, and I have always loved his comedy from when I saw him doing Monty Python.

Yup I'm a HUGE Monty Python Fan as well.

Holy Grail is my favourite Film, Followed very closely by Life of Brian. These are my favourite films of all time, not just python favourites. :) - I should start a Monty Python Appreciation thread. :)

This is where Fawlty Towers was actually located....

Wooburn grange Country Club, Wooburn Nr High Wickham. It's now a housing estate. The Country Club burned down after being abandoned apparently. The road is called Wooburn Grange off Grange Drive.

If you zoom out on the map you can see a plane flying overhead ( bottomleft )

My favourite is when they have the builders in; Sybill ordered the respectable builder and goes off on a golf-weekend herself and as soon as she leaves Basil cancels them to have the Irish rogue-builder in instead.

Edit: well, that one and the one with the Germans of course....

the episode "Communication problems" is my favorite, Joan Sanderson plays the deaf old lady who winds up Fawlty quite a bit.
Best scene, Basil has been called to old lady's room because she's not happy

Mrs Richards: I asked for a room with a view!
Basil: [muttering to Manuel] Deaf, mad, and blind...
[He goes to the window and peers through it.]
Basil: Ah, this is the view as far as I can remember, madam… yes, yes, this is it.
Mrs Richards: When I pay for a view, I expect something more interesting than that.
Basil: That is Torquay, madam.
Mrs Richards: Well, it's not good enough.
Basil: Well, may I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically—
Mrs Richards: Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea.
Basil: You can see the sea. It's over there between the land and the sky.
Mrs Richards: I'd need a telescope to see that.
Basil: Well, may I suggest that you consider moving to a hotel closer to the sea?! [muttering to himself] Or preferably in it.
Mrs. Richards: Now listen to me. I'm not satisfied, but I've decided to stay here. However, I shall expect a reduction.
Basil: Why? Because Krakatoa isn't erupting at the moment?

Classic

It was based on the amazing service that Cleese got at The Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay in the 70`s. The official line was that all of the Pythons were staying there but locally, it`s believed that only Cleese and Connie Booth stayed there while the rest of the team stayed at The Links Hotel (Now the Snooty Fox) while they were filming MPFC locally. I remember the local papers were outraged when the series first aired and the owner of the hotel threatening to sue Cleese for defamation. Later on when Life of Brian was on general release Torbay was one of the councils to ban the screening.

Ironically the council now want to put up a statue of John Cleese http://www.sitcom.co.uk/news/news.php?story=000113 and had Prunella Scales open the newly refurbished Gleneagles http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/5355146.stm
