Yeah I know sounds very dated now though. Considering
OL has been dead for years.

I like it. It's less sanitised than the modern WW2 documentaries :thumb:

Neighbours became ridiculous as well. Everything was all too clean and sanitised and a tool for moral brainwashing

The witness accounts in the series are excellently presented. I imagine most of them are dead now.

Never heard of it before. Sounds interesting. I notice the BBC have released a DVD boxset of the series. The BBC shop is charging £31 for it, but it can be had for about half that on ebay

It's worth watching. It's still sanitised in that the core reasons that led up to the starting of the war and the reasons why some of the elements of the war were undertaken are omitted but none the less it's more frank than the PC sanitised crap that's broadcast today.

Even though I'm notorious for speaking up against the American terrorist regime I highly recommend the words of an American Marine called General Smedley Butler who made a speech in 1933. you can read it here

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4377.htm

he also wrote a book of the same name, an extract....

“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”

World at War was excellent. Great score by Carl Davis too :splif:

Crown Court is fabulous. Dirt cheap boxed sets on Amazon. Buy a few. John Thaw was in an episode. Bob Hoskins, too many to list really. I'd recommend Public Eye too. All made on the cheap but outstanding performances :splif:

As for soaps, don't get me started. Feckin pure shite

Just not happening these days is it Dolls? :( Public Eye episodes were so unpredictable. The criminal would get away with it sometimes. Marker would get beaten up and back off sometimes. Refuse a case. Drop it all in the lap of the cops. Superb stuff :splif:

Some good stuff from the States but it all falls down when they try to do series after series of the same stuff. It's all formulaic eventually and that's what kills it :( I knew after 1 episode of the Living Dead that it was gonna head the same way so I stopped watching it. If there was such a thing as zombies, they'd run out of food after a few months. What happens to dead bodies? They decompose then they're a skeleton. They're just not viable for 5 (or more) seasons of television. Gotta know when to stop and move onto something else.

Criminal Minds, which I quite liked for a few series, is just so formula. Guy kills people. Lives locally. CI (with killer's profile) join up with local cops to find the perp that fits the profile. "Probably lives alone (or is married) used to (or didn't) torture his pets then upgraded to people"

There may be 3 decent episodes out of 8 seasons worth watching. Dunno, may be me expecting too much...........
