I used to love watching Brookie. The whole "body under the patio" thing creeped me out though :o

I used to love it. Yes, the hey day for me was when Sheila Grant was having the affair with Billy Corkhill. But the whole Jordache saga was brilliant!

I loved Brookside from the mid 80's until the early 90's. Really liked the Grants (used to fancy Barry), The Corkhills, Harry Cross, Terry & Sinbad, and Max Farnham. I always watched the omnibus on Saturday afternoons at 5.05pm :)

Who else remembers Les Dennis' stint in Brookside? I thought he was alright!

That was a brief one wasn't it, but I remember it too ! :D

Didn't Marti Caine (or was it Lily Savage! ) put in a guest appearance too? Does anyone remember right back to Heather Haversham, played by Amanda Burton?

I remember Heather - married to Handsome Roger, who buggered off, then druggie Nick, played by Alan Rothwell off of Picture Box :)

I really miss Brookside. Whatever happened to the videos that were supposed to be issued after the series finished? There was only one made! We did not get to see the revenge for Damian Grant's death promised in the next one. :spike:

It rewrote the rules for British soaps: no wobbling motel sets and awful acting, tales of heifers and stirks and cats going missing for weeks on end, which was what the ITV soaps had as storylines when the Close started. This was an absolutely in your face programme and must have inspired the early Eastenders as both were gritty, no holds barred programmes that attracted huge audiences and were light years ahead of the tame offerings from ITV. Very good and the Damon and Debbie spin off, which even my grandparents( more into Emmerdale Farm as then was) found exciting and different.

Debbie is in Casualty now - she has aged very well!

I loved Brookside but for me its terminal decline started around 1994 when they shoved bloody Lindsey Corkhill to the forefront. Remember the lesbian love triangle between her, her mother and posh Shelly? What were the thinking? And that was only the start...

Such a shame cos in its day, Brookside totally rocked.

I remember the first ever episode too, in fact they showed it again recently on Channel 4.

But Sheila wasn't raped in the first episode - and the rape happened outdoors, not in her home

As I've said for years, Brookside rewrote the rules for British soaps- no grannies talking about a cat going missing, the price of lambs or a motel that looked like it was made out of tinfoil- it was the first British soap young and more demanding viewers could relate to. Also its enduring quality is it's made stars out of Sue Johnston, Ricky Tomlinson and Anna Friel, who were very talented actors and do well decades later.
Theme music by Steve Wright AIRC, was he moonlighting from Radio 1?
Yes it went downhill in its last years, but until 1995, like Eastenders, was the hip and happening soap.

Who didn't fancy Barry Grant? He was your typical bad lad...... :chin:

My favourite episode was the one where he first slept with Tracey Corkhill. What a shocker......

Oh and I loved the whole Billy and Sheila storyline.

And who remembers the Free George Jackson campaign?

Yeah. He was married to Heather (Amanda Burton).

In a former life he used to present a schools' programme called Picture Box (I think that was the name). And I also think he was in Coronation St at some point but I could be wrong on that one!
