That made in britain advert on paramont comedy channel,is outrageous, where the guy wearing army boots and smashes up a tv with a cricket bat,and steals a chip off some girl, suggects to me that to be proud to be British, you are a thug or bully or worse a racist...why are they stereotyping that to be proud to be british you are a racist thug or bully?

I think those who work in advertising live on another planet and have no knowledge of those they're flogging their crap to.

The problem is they "think they do" - One of the biggest mistakes I think some advertisers make is to to try an appeal to everyone by creating some morphed monster of what they see as the average person. What they create is the most drab androgynous fake person you can think off. This has the perverse incentive of no one wishing to identify with the subject selling the product. Except for a perhaps a few people without any individuality who model themselves on this Advertisingstein Monster and turn themselves into the drab androgynous fake person they always were. :)

Indeed and it's not just ads, sometimes I look at TV shows and wonder who they base their characters on.

I haven't seen that advert but it sounds horrible.

The MFI adverts recently were the worst - the families argueing in the showroom because it was just like home....oh dear, very poor judgement and juxtaposition of brand and "aspirational lifestyle".
